Summer travel brings its share of challenges: crowded security lines, oversized luggage, and planes that could use better climate control. For frequent flyers, TSA PreCheck offers a way to skip the long waits.
A new promotion makes it more affordable for younger travelers. Through May, Americans aged 30 and younger can enroll in TSA PreCheck for $56.75, down from the standard $76.75.
The discount aims to increase enrollment among younger travelers who may not yet have the program. According to the TSA, PreCheck members typically wait less than 10 minutes at security checkpoints, compared to significantly longer for standard lanes.
Three enrollment providers offer the program at slightly different price points. IDEMIA charges $56.75 for new members under the promotion, CLEAR costs $59.95, and Telos prices at $65. Renewal fees vary by provider and range from $58.75 to $79.95 depending on whether customers renew online or in person.
The enrollment process involves completing an online application followed by an in-person appointment at one of roughly 1,300 locations nationwide. Most applicants receive their Known Traveler Number within three to five days, granting immediate access to PreCheck lanes.
Members enjoy several conveniences beyond shorter lines. They can keep electronics and 3-1-1 liquids in their bags, and are not required to remove belts or light jackets.
For travelers who prefer not to pay the enrollment fee, some credit cards offer PreCheck or Global Entry credits as a perk. The Capital One Venture Rewards card, which carries a $95 annual fee, includes up to $120 annually toward these programs.
The promotion runs through May and applies only to new enrollments for applicants aged 30 and under.
