Around 144 cases of an Einstein Bros. Bagels cream cheese product have been pulled from shelves after a packaging mix-up left the contents incorrectly labelled, creating a potential allergen risk for people with almond sensitivities.
The voluntary recall was issued by Wisconsin-based Schreiber Foods after it was discovered that cups of Honey Almond Cream Cheese Spread had been sealed with a plain cream cheese lid, while the cup itself was labelled as Plain. Anyone with an almond allergy purchasing the product based on the cup label would have had no indication it contained almonds — a risk the FDA flagged as potentially life-threatening for those with severe sensitivities.
The affected products were distributed to Einstein Bros. locations in Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Wyoming. They come in a 6-ounce plastic cup and can be identified by the lot code on the bottom reading: Best If Used By Jul 21, 2026 LO.
Schreiber Foods traced the issue to a specific shipment where lids and cups were mismatched during packaging. The company says the packaging error was isolated, has since been corrected, and the problem was confirmed to be limited to this one product batch.
No allergic reactions or illnesses have been reported in connection with the recall. Customers who purchased the affected product are encouraged to return it to the store where it was bought for a full refund.
