Thousands of ready-to-eat pizza and focaccia bread products have been recalled after North Carolina-based food manufacturer Bakkavor identified a potential contamination risk from metal fragments. The voluntary recall was initiated in January and was subsequently classified by the FDA as a Class II recall — meaning there is a possibility of temporary or medically reversible health consequences, but a low probability of serious harm.
The recall covers approximately 23,459 cases of roasted tomato and Parmesan focaccia bread sold under the Frederik’s by Meijer, Harris Teeter, Trader Joe’s, and Fresh & Simple labels. An additional 2,337 cases of HelloFresh Basil Pesto and Mozzarella Pizza — each case containing 15 individual packages — are also included.
The affected products carry use-by dates ranging from April 27 through October 15, spanning four pizza lot numbers and more than a dozen focaccia bread lot numbers. Items were distributed to retailers across ten states: Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, North Carolina, New Jersey, Texas, and Virginia. HelloFresh also shipped some of the affected pizza products directly to customers through its meal kit delivery service.
No injuries have been reported in connection with the recall. Consumers who purchased any of the affected products are advised to discard them or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
