Toyota is recalling more than 73,000 hybrid vehicles due to insufficient pedestrian warning sounds in reverse, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The recall affects certain 2023-2025 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid vehicles that fail to produce adequate audible alerts while backing up, potentially increasing pedestrian injury risk. The vehicles do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 141 requirements for hybrid and electric vehicles.
Approximately 73,528 vehicles are impacted by the recall, identified as campaigns 26TB08 and 26TA08, though only about 1% are expected to actually have the defect. Toyota dealers will update the software on affected vehicles free of charge to correct the pedestrian warning system.
Owner notification letters regarding the safety recall are scheduled to be mailed by May 30, 2026.
