Wrexham University is preparing to deliver the largest single capital investment in its history — a £22 million Business Gateway designed to serve as a civic and economic hub at the heart of its campus.
Backed by Ambition North Wales, the Wrexham Business Gateway will house start-up incubation space, innovation and digital labs, professional development programs, public-facing business clinics, and areas for community events and collaboration.
The project aligns with the university’s broader Campus 2030 vision and reinforces its role as an anchor institution for the region. It will also serve as the new home for Wrexham Business School, following the recent appointment of Dr Ruth Slater as its dean.
Regional Partnerships Drive the Vision
The development was shaped in collaboration with local organizations, including Wrexham AFC. “The project has been developed with a shared ambition to position Wrexham as a place to grow, invest, and lead,” the university stated.
The North Wales Investment Zone is contributing £4 million to the project, underscoring its alignment with efforts to support high-value manufacturing and advanced industries across the region.
What the Gateway Will Deliver
Once completed, the facility will provide space for enterprise, skills training, and knowledge exchange — connecting the university campus with the broader city and community. Vice-Chancellor Professor Joe Yates described it as “a platform for transformation,” not just a building.
“It represents our ambition to connect education with enterprise and opportunity, and to play a leading role in shaping a stronger, more innovative regional economy,” Yates said.
Dr Slater added that the Gateway will bring “business, learning, and leadership together in one place,” helping develop regional talent and strengthen the skills needed for sustained economic growth.
Capital Projects Manager Paul Moran noted that partners worked closely from design through delivery to ensure the space would serve students, businesses, and the wider community. “We’re proud to see this landmark project come to life,” he said.
The Wrexham Business Gateway is expected to support job creation, business growth, and private investment — positioning Wrexham as a growing center for education and enterprise in North Wales.
